Andrew graduated with a BA (Hons) degree in Politics from Lancaster University in 1984. Following postgraduate study at Oxford, he began his career at Kleinwort Benson in 1986, moving in 1996 to Laing & Cruickshank Investment Management, which was acquired by UBS Wealth Management in 2004. In 2006 Andrew joined Cheviot Asset Management, where he is responsible for managing portfolios on behalf of individuals, trusts, charities and pension funds.
