Anthony graduated from Cambridge University in 1964 and began his career at private client stockbroking firm Popham, Lyon, Smith. Following a merger with Powell Dawes, the newly combined firm - Powell Popham Dawes - became the private client arm of Laing & Cruickshank in 1977. Anthony worked there until his retirement in 2005. He joined Cheviot Asset Management as a consultant in July 2006.
