James graduated with a double honours degree in Law & Economics from the University of Edinburgh in 1999. He began his career at James Capel Investment Management in 1999, moving in 2003 to Laing & Cruickshank Investment Management, which was acquired by UBS Wealth Management in 2004. In 2006 James joined Cheviot Asset Management, where he is responsible for managing portfolios on behalf of individuals, trusts, charities and pension funds. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Securities Institute, Chairs the Cheviot Alternative Investments Committee and sits on the Cheviot Fund Selection Committee.
