James graduated in Business Studies from Westminster University. He began his career at James Capel Investment Management in 1987, moving in 2002 to Laing & Cruickshank Investment Management, which was acquired by UBS Wealth Management in 2004. In 2006 James joined Cheviot Asset Management, where he is responsible for managing portfolios on behalf of individuals, trusts, charities and pension funds. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Securities Institute.
