Michael started his career at the Bank of England's Economic Intelligence Department, before joining Guinness Peat Group with Sir Alastair Morton. Having restructured the group and built up its US operation, he became Chief Executive. On his return to London in 1989 he was appointed Chief Executive of Credit Lyonnais Laing & Cruickshank, before the Laing & Cruickshank business was sold to UBS in 2004.
